- Description
- This paper aims to discuss the ultimate temperatures of columns loaded in axial compression and uniform bending obtained from two analytical formulations and numerical simulations. A formulation to calculate the fire resistance of steel columns under fire conditions has been developed as a result of the research project "Buckling Curves in Case of Fire" (BCCF). These formulae are different that the one published in the current version of the Eurocode 3 part 1.2. The impact of the differences in the formulation of the interaction coefficients (μy,θ and μz,θ) is investigated by comparing the failure temperatures obtained analytically. The dimensionless M-N interaction curves obtained with the two analytical formulations are compared with finite element calculations from SAFIR and LENAS. The comparisons show that in most cases there is no dramatic difference between the two formulations but it can also be conclude that the BCCF formulation fits better the numerical results than the EC3 formulation.
